That metallic accord everyone talks about? It's there, giving this some backbone that separates it from the usual aquatic crowd, but don't expect it to announce itself from across the room.

Performance is solid for what it is. Seven hours is accurate, maybe six on really hot days. The projection starts decent for the first two hours, then settles close to skin. I tested this proximity extensively during a particularly long client dinner last month and... actually, never mind. Point is, you'll smell it when you're supposed to.

They wanted to create something that felt modern and industrial — hence the coal and metallic accord — but still wearable enough that your nan wouldn't cross herself when you walked into Sunday roast. And they've genuinely succeeded at that brief. The metallic note is actually quite clever, giving this a slightly robotic edge that separates it from the sea of blue bottles promising to make you irresistible to yacht owners.

I wore this for a solid month last winter, and it became my default 'meeting with the client's CEO' fragrance. It projects well for the first two hours (you'll get compliments in the lift), then settles into this pleasant skin scent that lasts a proper six to seven hours. The bergamot and black pepper opening is sharp enough to wake you up during your morning commute, and the ambroxan base means you still smell intentional by evening drinks. Right?

But here's where Carbon falls down for me... it's a bit like ordering the house special and getting a very competent chicken breast. Nothing wrong with it, performs exactly as advertised, but where's the story? Where's the thing that makes me reach for this bottle instead of the twelve other fresh fragrances doing roughly the same job? It's Prada, for crying out loud — they should be taking bigger risks than 'aquatic but with a metallic twist.' I cannot stress this enough: competent isn't the same as compelling.
