Full Review

The One EDP exists because too many people complained about the original EDT's infamous performance issues. While it doesn't completely solve the longevity problem that plagues this line, it does give you a solid 6-8 hours instead of the EDT's disappointing 3-4. This is a fragrance for men who want to smell expensive without screaming for attention – think business dinner dates and sophisticated evening occasions rather than club nights.

The opening cardamom and ginger give it more spice than sweetness, which sets it apart from the tobacco-heavy original. The heart develops into a creamy blend of orange blossom and neroli that feels refined rather than cloying. Where it really shines is in the dry-down, where amber and cedar create a skin-close warmth that's genuinely seductive. Projection stays moderate throughout – you'll get about arm's length for the first 2-3 hours before it becomes more intimate.

Honestly, this should perform better for what D&G charges. At $80-120 for 100ml, you're paying premium prices for mid-tier performance. The scent itself is beautiful and sophisticated, but when Prada L'Homme offers similar elegance with better longevity for less money, it's hard to justify the full bottle price. The 50ml is the smarter buy here – you'll appreciate having less of something you'll need to reapply anyway.

This works best on men who prefer subtle sophistication over bold projection. If you're the type who wants people to lean in rather than smell you from across the room, The One EDP delivers exactly that energy. Just don't expect beast mode performance, and definitely sample first unless you're already familiar with the original.

Close Quarters Champion, Nowhere Else

The One EDP does what expensive men's fragrances should do: makes me want to get closer. When a guy wears this, I catch myself leaning in during conversations. The cardamom and ginger hit first, then settle into this warm amber situation that reads as effortlessly sophisticated. It's the fragrance equivalent of a well-tailored sweater.

Here's where it gets frustrating. I only notice it when I'm within two feet of the wearer. Beyond that? Nothing. I tested this on three different guys over the past month, including my cousin's wedding where one groomsman wore it. Great for the receiving line and slow dances. Useless for making an impression across a crowded room. Seven hours of longevity sounds impressive until you realize only the first three have any real presence.

Let me be clear: this isn't worth premium pricing when you can get similar warmth and better projection from fragrances that cost half as much. It's beautifully blended and smells expensive, but performance matters. If a guy's going to invest in something this pricey, I want to smell it when he walks into a room, not just when we're sharing an elevator.

Pros

  • + Actually improves on the EDT's weak longevity
  • + Perfect for intimate settings and close conversations
  • + Sophisticated cardamom-amber blend that smells genuinely expensive

Cons

  • - Projection barely reaches three feet
  • - Premium price for mediocre performance

The Safe Choice That's Almost Great

Look, I genuinely wanted to love The One EDP more than I do. It's got everything going for it on paper — that cardamom opening hits like expensive aftershave your dad would've worn to important meetings, the orange blossom middle is properly sophisticated, and the amber base has this warmth that makes you smell like you've got your life sorted. I've worn this to client dinners, dates, that wedding where you know you'll be sitting with people you're trying to impress... and it delivers. For about four hours.

Here's the thing though (and I cannot stress this enough): it's the fragrance equivalent of a perfectly executed brief that nobody remembers. Seven hours longevity sounds decent until you realise the last three are you leaning into your own wrist wondering if it's still there. The projection? Moderate is generous — we're talking intimate conversation distance, which is fine if that's the brief, but at this price point I want to own the room at least until pudding.

The improvement over the EDT is real — genuinely gets you through a full workday rather than disappearing after lunch. But it's like upgrading from a decent mid-range car to a slightly better mid-range car when what you really wanted was something that turns heads in the car park. Right? It's competent, refined, smells expensive... but so does everything else at this price. Sometimes competence isn't enough when you're paying premium for what should be unforgettable.

Pros

  • + Cardamom opening that actually smells expensive
  • + Proper grown-up sophistication without being stuffy
  • + Actually lasts longer than the EDT version

Cons

  • - Projection dies faster than enthusiasm at a Monday morning meeting
  • - Premium price for what feels like premium-adjacent performance
